Last updated on Thursday, August 2, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man charged with attempted murder is now facing a murder charge after a fight on West Third Street left one man dead and another in serious condition.

Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams says when police arrived Monday at 2:45 a.m. to the Ziebart parking lot in the 2400 block of West Third Street, they found 23-year-old Victor Morales Acosta "lying in blood" with knife wounds to his neck and face. Monroe County Coroner says Acosta suffered 34 stab wounds and likely died from blood loss.

A second victim, who has not been named, also suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to the IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He has been upgraded to stable condition.

On Monday afternoon police arrested 30-year-old Pedro Jeronimo-Arriaga at his place of employment on a preliminary charge of attempted murder in connection to the second victim. On Tuesday night they added a murder charge. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday.

Capt. Kellams says the case remains under investigation says some witnesses were reluctant to talk to police about the incident.
