Last updated on Friday, August 17, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested on Thursday morning after he decided to shoot the lock off his front door.

Police were called around 5:30 a.m. after a woman reported that she heard gunshots and saw a man kick in the door of her neighboring apartment.

When police arrived in the 500 block of East Graham Place they found 20-year-old Alveaire Lewis.

Lewis was arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness and booked into the Monroe County Correctional Center.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, Lewis told police he had went to Indianapolis Wednesday night and when he arrived at his apartment he realized he had forgotten his keys.

Capt. Kellams says Lewis fired two shots from a Glock handgun at the door, before kicking the door down. He then entered his apartment and went to bed.

Police found the pistol under Lewis' pillow.
