Prior to serving as sheriff for two terms, Craig served as a major and detective commander for the Bedford Police Department. He also serves as president of the Lawrence County Council.

Craig said as Director of Administrative Service he has embraced the various related assignments of interdepartmental standards, policy, insurance claims and employee-related issues.

"I have gained invaluable knowledge and experience to the challenges and insights of each of the city departments," he said in a press release announcing his campaign. "I have worked with other entities involved in city partnerships to promote the betterment of the community.

"Through hard work, determination and experience, I am in the position of being qualified and ready to lead our city forward in 2020. My knowledge of the proper processes of government along with the fundamental values that promote safety, vital infrastructure and quality services for our city to prosper in years to come."

Craig's top goals for the city are safety, education, beautification and economic development.

He plans to collaborate with law enforcement to promote school safety, combat the drug epidemic and keep residents safe.

He also wants to cooperate with the school system and StoneGate Arts & Education Center to provide training and education necessary to improve employment opportunities.

"I also want to collaborate with businesses and industry to help them sustain and grow their viability in our community," he said. "We will work hard to attract new industry and jobs through these partnerships."

Craig is a lifelong resident of Lawrence County. He and his wife Lou Ann have two children, Ashley Spreen and Alex Craig, and five grandchildren. They attend St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

"I will have a conservative, but proactive approach for the growth and development of our city," Craig said. "Whether through developing and enforcing policy or reviewing and deciding budgets, I will diligently work for the betterment of this community."
