Last updated on Wednesday, August 8, 2018

(OOLITIC) - A vehicle striking an REMC support wiring on Harrodsburg Road caused a power outage Monday at 4:15 a.m.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report, 52-year-old Jerry Hearth Jr. was traveling on Harrodsburg Lane, north of Airy HIlls Lane, when his 1998 Dodge Ram pickup left the roadway after failing to negotiate the curve.

The pickup struck several bushes, tree saplings and REMC support wiring.

The truck continued west 300 feet through a field at 2831 Harrodsburg Road, entered a wooded area and then traveled another 130 feet before going down an embankment and striking several small trees.

The vehicle could not be seen from the roadway.

Police say Hearth, who suffered multiple scrapes and cuts, waited five hours before he walked to a home in the 2720 block of Harrodsburg road to report the accident.

He was transported from the scene by St. Vincent Ambulance to Bloomington for treatment.
