Jackson County Police arrested 38-year-old Shaun Gasaway on charges of auto theft, operating a vehicle while intoxicated driving while driver's license suspended with a prior conviction and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Police began their investigation after a resident in the 2500 block of West State Road 258 in Seymour discovered a damaged travel trailer on their property.

As Deputy Adam Nicholson was enroute to the home, the department received another call from a resident in the 4700 block of West State Road 58 reported their 2001 Ford Excursion and a travel trailer had been stolen.

The owner met with the officer and determined the damaged vehicle was his.

Police then received a third call at 9:32 a.m. that they found a blue moped on their property next to the residence where the vehicle and trailer had been stolen.

Police contacted the registered owner of the moped, who says it had been recently sold.

Deputy Nicholson then went to the new owner's home on West Brown Street in Seymour. The owner says Gasaway had borrowed the moped and not returned it.

Police then searched for Gasaway. They looked in Freetown, Medora, Seymour and Vallonia.

Around 2 p.m., police received an anonymous tip that Gasaway had left the Vallonia area and was heading north on State Road 135.

Jackson County Police alerted Brownstown officers who began searching for Gasaway.

Deputy Nicholson spotted Gasaway at the intersection of U.S. 50 and State Road 135, where he stopped Gasaway. Deputy Nicholson determined Gasaway was driving while intoxicated and he was arrested.

Gasaway is being held in the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown without bond.
