Tip Lands Suspect In Jail Following Bloomington Lowe's Robbery

Last updated on Tuesday, July 24, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A tip from a concerned citizen landed 31-year-old Shandi Hawkins in jail after police say she stole more than $1,300 worth of merchandise from Lowe’s Home Improvement on Friday morning.

Police were called to Lowe's at 350 North Gates Drive after a concerned citizen saw two women in a white 2006 Silverado truck stealing items from the store.

As the truck drove around Bloomington, the citizen followed it in his own vehicle, but ended up losing track of the truck. But Bloomington Police spotted the vehicle at the corner of 11th and Adams street.

The driver of the truck, Hawkins, was arrested on charges of theft and driving while her driver's license was suspended.

Her female passenger was released at the scene.

Police say Hawkins stole copper wire, laundry detergent, a door lockset and a Honda power washer.

The items were recovered and returned to the store.
