State Road 235 To Close North Of Medora As Part Of $2.2M Bridge Project

Last updated on Friday, July 13, 2018

(JACKSON CO.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close State Road 235 north of Medora next Monday, July 16, while crews begin removing an existing culvert located 5.8 miles north of S.R. 135.

A new 4-sided box structure should be in place and the highway reopened within 11 days after the closure begins. Inclement weather could delay scheduled operations.

Motorists will be detoured around the construction site via U.S. Highway 50 and S.R. 135.

The box culvert--carrying a tributary of White River--is a 16- X 8-foot precast concrete structure measuring 70 feet in width.

S.R. 235 has a traffic count of 1420 vehicles per day at the closure site.

This work is part of a $2,230,246 4-bridge rehabilitation/small structure replacement contract awarded to E & B Paving. This summer/fall's work impacts Jackson County traffic on S.R. 135, S.R. 235 and S.R. 250.

Contracted crews are currently making repairs, pouring new approach slabs and installing a new bridge deck overlay at the S.R. 135 3-span bridge over Hough Creek, a mile south of U.S. 50 at Brownstown. Traffic is restricted to a single lane controlled by temporary signals at either end of the construction site. These restrictions will be in place through mid-October.

A similar operation is scheduled to begin after August 8 on S.R. 235 east of Medora at the 5-span 524-foot-long bridge over the East Fork of White River. This work there calls for a 60-day full closure.

The fourth structure under contract is a box culvert on S.R. 250 carrying Hough Creek at Brownstown. The current structure will be replaced by a 16- X 5-foot reinforced box culvert measuring 26-feet in width. Operations--tentatively scheduled to begin in mid-August--require a 30-day full closure.
