52-year-old Susan Judd is facing charges of battery against a person under 14 years old, a Level 6 felony; neglect of a dependent, a Level 6 felony; and public intoxication, a class B misdemeanor.

According to a Lawrence County Superior Court I probable cause affidavit, on June 6, an employee at Arby's, was alerted by a customer saying a woman in a vehicle in the drive-through was hitting a girl. The employee went outside and heard the girl screaming and saw a woman punching her.

The employee dialed 911 and alerted police. He was able to provide police the license plate number of the white Ford Taurus and a Bedford Police officer responded, but the vehicle left before police arrived.

A Lawrence County Sheriff's deputy later went to Judd's home on Springville-Judah Road to check on the teen. The deputy found the teen standing outside with another relative and Judd inside the home.

The teen told the deputy, Judd wanted her to go to Arby's with her, but the teen didn't want to go because Judd had been drinking but went reluctantly. While in the drive through, the girl told the deputy she called her grandfather, which made Judd upset.

The teen told the deputy Judd then slapped and punched her in the face after attempting to take the phone from her.

The teen says they left the restaurant and Judd drove to another parking lot on State Road 37 and the teen fled the vehicle to get away from Judd. Judd then drove off leaving the teen behind.

According to police the girl suffered scratches to her arm and nose and bruising on her lip.

Judd is being held on a $7,500 surety or $755 cash bond.
