Restrictions Next Week On State Road 37, State Road 39 For Beam Study

Last updated on Wednesday, July 4, 2018

(MARTINSVILLE) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to restrict traffic next week at northbound State Road 39 and on the northbound State Road. 37 ramp that overpasses S.R. 39 at the south edge of Martinsville.

Lane closures are being coordinated with an engineering research team from Purdue University studying bridge beam deflections.

On Monday, July 9th, northbound State Road 39 will be closed under the ramp while Purdue researchers affix patterned decals on lower flanges of bridge beams at critical locations to measure deflections under weighted traffic. This closure will be in effect for much of the day.

A 48-hour cure time is required after affixing the measurement decals.

On Thursday, July 12, loaded tandem-axle trucks from INDOT's Martinsville unit will drive across the overpassing ramp while researchers record deflections with equipment stationed below. This requires closing northbound S.R. 39--and single-lane closures on the ramp itself.

All operations are weather dependent.

An outside beam under the S.R 37-to-S.R. 39 ramp - impacted by a collision - resulted in closure of the ramp's right lane.
