One Culvert Replacement Site to Open on State Road 58, Another to Close

(LAWRENCE CO.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to open State Road 58 at a culvert replacement site 2.56 miles east of State Road. 446 at Zelma Saturday.

On Monday INDOT plans to close a S.R. 58 at a second culvert replacement site. This one is located 1.65 miles east of S.R. 446, east of Heltonville.

Construction schedules for both S.R. 58 locations are weather dependent.

Ragle Inc., the state's contractor for this $461,365 small structure replacement project in Lawrence County, is currently completing installation of a 4-sized box culvert that carries Leatherwood Creek under S.R. 58 at Zelma. It measures 16- X 4-feet with a 42-foot width. Once reopened, S.R. 58 motorists may experience random delays while crews finalize ancillary work.

Closer to Heltonville, the Newburgh-based contractor will replace a 3-sided box culvert with a concrete structure measuring 10- X 6-foot with a 56-foot width. This S.R. 58 box culvert It will carry a tributary of Leatherwood Creek.

Monday's closure will continue for up to 30 days. County road detours will be posted.

S.R. 58 has a traffic count of 530 vehicles per day.
