Mayor And Others Worked Together To Save City Of Washington Firework Display

Last updated on Thursday, July 5, 2018

(WASHINGTON) - The 4th of July celebration in Washington went off, but not without the fast moves of Mayor Joe Wellam and Park Superintendent Kip Kelley.

City officials received a call Wednesday morning from the company hired for the East Side Park Fireworks display. The company had experienced an explosion Tuesday night and would not be able to bring their show to Washington.

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman, and Park Superintendent Kip Kelley drove to the company's headquarters in Kentucky to pick up the fireworks and brought them to Washington. Then they hurried to find someone qualified to set them off.

The show went off on schedule.

In a Facebook post Mayor Wellman thanked Kelly, Police Chief Todd Church and Randy Ruston and others for their efforts.
