Lawrence County 2018 Fair Queen will be Crowned Friday

(BEDFORD) - One young woman will be crowned the 2018 Lawrence County Fair Queen Friday night. Five young woman will showcase their talents during the event.

Candidates are judged on four categories: interview (50 points), formal wear (20 points), professional wear (20 points) and prepared speech (10 points). In addition to naming a queen, judges will select a first and second runner-up. The 2018 Miss Lawrence County will receive a scholarship, crown donated by the previous year's queen, a sash and bouquet of roses from West End Flowers.

The queen contest kicks off at 7 p.m. Admission to the event is $2 per person.

2018 Lawrence County 4-H Fair, runs from July 14-21 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds on U.S. 50 West. The fair is a showcase for 4-H youth to demonstrate their abilities and talents in both livestock and other projects .

Kayla Carson is the daughter of Hank and Donna Carson. She is a sophomore at Ivy Tech Community College and will join the students at Purdue University to study for a career in agriculture education.

Tristin Day is the daughter of Tim and Jamie Day. She is 2018 BNL graduate. She will attend the University of Southern Indiana and study dental hygiene.

Kara Jones is the daughter of Kimberly and Kevin Jones. She is a graduate of BNL. She just completed her junior year at Ivy Tech where she is pursuing a medical career.

Emma Sullivan is the daughter of Courtney and J.J McWhorter and Jeremy Sullivan. She is a sophomore at Indiana University where she is a student of the IU School of Nursing.

Kelsey Walton is the daughter of Lydia and Jim Mosier and Travis Walton. She is a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence and a junior at the University of Southern Indiana where she is studying for a career as an elementary teacher.

Three girls are competing in the Lawrence County Fair princess contest. Princess contestants are judged on an interview (50 points) and formal wear (50 points). The princess wins $100 cash, a crown, sash and a gift of jewelry donated by the Duncan sisters.

Sapphire Deckard, 16, is the daughter of Sara Wessel, Zachary Shutters, Michael Deckard and Rachel Deckard. She is a junior at BNL and is a member of the BNL bowling team.

Trenady Shaw, 16, is the daughter of Mariah Shaw Todd and TJ Todd. She is a junior at Mitchell High School where she is a cheerleader.

Kaity Woods, 15, is the daughter of Kimberly Woods and Seane Woods. She is a sophomore at BNL where she was a member of the softball team.

Six girls will serve as escorts at the Lawrence County Fair queen contest Friday night in the Expo Hall.

Fynley Baker, 8, is the daughter of Brett and Britney Baker. She is a third-grader of Springville Elementary School. She enjoys gymnastics, dance and playing softball.

Abigail Fountain, 8, is the daughter of Paul and Janice Fountain. She is a third-grader at Hatfield Elementary School. She enjoys Mini 4-H, dance, gymnastics and doing crafts.

Kendall Shanks, 8, is the daughter of Molly Shanks. She is a third-grader of Dollens Elementary School. She is a member of the Lawrence County Sheep and Rabbit clubs.
