(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to begin restricting traffic to a single lane on State Road 9 at Little Haw Creek north of Hope in Haw Township tomorrow as part of a $1.5 million 2-bridge rehabilitation project.
Traffic restrictions will start next Tuesday at a second S.R. 9 bridge site south of Hope.
Flaggers will be onsite while equipment is put in place and barriers are moved.
The S.R. 9 3-span bridge located 5.7 miles north of S.R. 46--where operations begin tomorrow, weather permitting--will receive a 2-inch latex modified concrete deck overlay designed to extend the 100-foot-long structure's service life and improve rideability. Work there includes necessary repairs and new pavement approaches.
The 4-span bridge over Clifty Creek in Clifty and Clay Townships--where work starts next week-- requires more extensive rehabilitation. Its 260-foot-long deck will be removed and replaced--and new bridge rails installed--while other repairs are being made and approaches poured. This structure is located 0.5 miles north of S.R. 46.
Temporary signals at either ends of both S.R. 9 bridges will control one-direction-at-a-time traffic flow while construction operations take place on half the structure at a time. Motorists should anticipate brief delays through late-fall.
R. A. Myers Construction of Muncie is the state's contractor.
