(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility (CCA) will host a celebration of the 28th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 28, from 9:00 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Festivities will take place at Plaza 1A on the B-Line Trail, next to the Farmers' Market.

Those attending will have the opportunity to challenge their skills in a variety of activities presented by Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Ivy Tech, Monroe County Public Library, People and Animal Learning Services (PALS), Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living (SICIL), and Stone Belt.

Along with a wheelchair course and a visit by Daisy Mae the miniature horse, the CCA and partnering organizations will host information tables at the event. City of Bloomington Utilities will be passing out filled City water bottles and those who participate in activities can win a cookie from Baked!

The Council for Community Accessibility (CCA) is a volunteer group that advocates for the interests of people with disabilities. Formed in 1990, the CCA promotes awareness of the challenges faced by people with disabilities and works to develop solutions to problems of accessibility in the community. While they come from diverse backgrounds, CCA members share a personal interest in accessibility issues and bring a range of leadership experiences to their work on the Council. Many members have disabilities themselves or are family members of those with disabilities. Others work in agencies that help people with disabilities.

As part of its efforts to make Bloomington welcoming to those of all abilities, the CCA hosts the annual ADA celebration as well as a fall event, and recognizes area businesses for their commitment to accessibility with decals they award in the spring. A complete list of CCA volunteer opportunities is posted at www.bloomington.in.gov/cca. The council holds public meetings at City Hall at Showers Plaza, 401 N. Morton Street, Bloomington, Indiana.
