(SULLIVAN CO.) - Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom says a body was found in the Wabash River Wednesday night about 2 ½ miles south of State Road 154 between Hutsonville and Merom.

Sheriff Cottom says the body of a white male was discovered by a boater shortly after 9 p.m. The body was clothed and appeared to have been in the water less than 48 hours.

An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Sheriff Cottom has requested assistance from Indiana State Police with identification of the body through fingerprints and DNA.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is heading up the investigation with assistance from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.
