Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association Launches 90 Degree Pool Days At Mills Pool

Last updated on Wednesday, July 25, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - On days when the temperature is forecast to be at least 90° F, the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association (BUEA) invites community members to swim for free from 3 to 7 p.m. at Mills Pool.

Each morning, Bloomington Parks and Recreation staff will check the weather forecast and, if the temperature (not heat index or dew point) is slated to reach 90° F or above, Bloomington Parks and Recreation will post that it is a 90° Pool Day on the Mills Swimming Pool Facebook page by 1 p.m.

"Supporting 90° Pool Days dovetails with our mission," said Jane Kupersmith, board member of the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association. "Access to our municipal pools is important on especially hot days, so we have removed the barrier of cost to ensure that people who need relief are able to get it. There's no paperwork required to take advantage of 90° Pool Days. Just show up and jump in!"

90° Pool Days take place only at Mills Pool, 1100 W. 14th St. Admission to the city's Bryan Park Pool, 1020 S. Woodlawn Ave., remains $6 per person every day.

Mills Pool is open daily from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. through Aug. 5. Regular admission is $6 for adults and youth between the ages of 3 and 17 years. Information about the status of 90° Pool Days and weather-related pool closings is available at the Pools Hotline, 812-349-3741.

About Mills Pool
Mills Pool is one of two outdoor pools owned and operated by the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. Named for Rotarian Ralph R. Mills, Mills Pool opened to the public in September 1967. A vinyl liner was installed in the pool in 2001 to address leaking issues, and interactive spray features, a 57-foot drop slide, and shade umbrellas were installed in 2003. Mills Pool recorded more than 14,000 admissions in 2017. Today, Mills Pool holds about 155,000 gallons of water, and includes a zero-depth activity pool designed for children under the age of 10 years, a diving board, waterslide, and water basketball goal.
