Bedford Native Promoted To Sergeant Squad Leader

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter has announced the promotion of ISP Operations Sergeant Rusty Garrison to the rank of Sergeant, District Squad Leader.

Sergeant Garrison will directly supervise enforcement personnel and his new duties will include evaluating job performance, counseling squad members and maintaining liaison between his squad and other department entities.

A 1987 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, Sergeant Garrison earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University in 1996. Sergeant Garrison graduated from the 55th ISP Recruit School Academy in December of 1997 and upon graduation, Sergeant Garrison was assigned to the Lowell Post and primarily patrolled Lake County.

Garrison then transferred to the Bloomington Post in 1999 where he was assigned Monroe, then Lawrence County as his primary areas of patrol. Sergeant Garrison has served in several roles over his 21 year ISP career, including the ISP SWAT Team, ISP Operations Center, the ISP Training Division, ISP Crime Scene Investigations and the ISP Motorcycle Program.

Before his ISP career, Sgt Garrison served in the United States Marine Corps from 1990 - 1994.
