WFIU And IU Jacobs School Of Music To Co-Host Jazz In July

(BLOOMINGTON) - WFIU Public Radio and the Department of Jazz Studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music are partnering to bring back the Jazz in July concert series next month.

The previous concert series ran for more than 20 years at the Indiana University Art Museum. After a four-year hiatus, WFIU jazz host David Brent Johnson and Tom Walsh, chair of the Department of Jazz Studies, decided to revive the popular, long-running series.

"Jazz in Julywas always a marvelous outdoor showcase for music in this community, and we are excited to restore a great Bloomington summer tradition," said Johnson.

All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public. The series kicks off on Friday, July 6, with the Al Cobine Big Band, followed by Joe Galvin Latin Jazz Octet: Soneros de la Caliza on July 13, the Charlie Ballantine Quartet on July 20, and the Heartland Trio and Kathryn Sherman on July 27.

The concerts on July 6, 13, and 27 take place at the Conrad Prebys Amphitheater (behind Bryan House) on the Indiana University campus. The July 20th concert takes place in the green space of the IU School of Global and International Studies. Attendees may bring a chair or blanket to the concerts.

In the event of rain, concerts will be moved indoors to Musical Arts Center 066.

"I am happy that we are able to present Jazz in July in two of the beautiful, new outdoor spaces on campus.We have assembled a line-up of wonderful talent in a variety of jazz styles that everyone will enjoy," said Walsh.

In addition to Jazz in July co-hosts WFIU and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the concert series is supported by presenting sponsor FARMbloomington and supporting sponsor IU Credit Union Investment Services.
