(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was flown by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital and her passenger was taken by ambulance to IU Health Hospital after an accident in the 1700 block of Standish Steel Road on Friday night.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report, 18-year-old Abigail Leatherbury of Bedford was driving her 2008 Scion XB north on Standish Steel Road when her vehicle went off the roadway and struck a large log and collided with a tree.

Police say Leatherbury was possibly speeding at the time of the accident.

Leatherbury had to be freed from the wreckage. She complained of leg pain and was transported by an AMR ambulance to State Road 446 where she was picked up by a helicopter and flown to Louisville for treatment.

Her 16-year-old female passenger was able to get out of the vehicle herself. She complained of chest pain and was transported by ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment.
