(BIRDSEYE) - Almost a year after the body of Darin Atkins was discovered, two people have been arrested.

Police arrested Jason Atkins on a murder charge and Sarah Andry for aiding in the murder. Both are facing charges of aggravated battery.

Police found Atkins body at a home off South Harts Gravel Road in Birdseye. Police say Atkins suffered several skull fractures caused by a blunt force object. No murder weapon was found at the scene.

Official reports say that for the past three years there had been a love triangle between 49-year-old Darin and the two suspects.

Police say around 4:13 a.m. on July 18, 2017 Jason and Andry came to the Darin's house and struck him multiple times with a baseball bat.

Police say Atkins had been dead for a period of time before his death was reported by his on-again, off-again girlfriend around 2 p.m. that day.

Police say at least 10 people were at Atkins' residence located on the 3000 block of Harts Gravel Road during that time and before police were notified of the death.

Dubois County Detective Sgt.Tom Kleinhelter says it's unusual to have a case where people don't immediately call 911. He says the reason so many people came out to the home where Atkins lived by himself is due to the gossip that spread after he was found making the case complicated due to the extensive list of people that entered the crime scene. Kleinhelter feels those at the crime scene came there to verify the information they had received, but no one contacted police.

Detectives say they used phone records, GPS, Facebook Messenger conversations, surveillance footage, and video interviews to conduct a thorough investigation.

Both Andry and Jason are due in court for a pretrial conference on June 26.
