Last updated on Monday, June 4, 2018

(BEDFORD) - Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Friday night on Tunnelton Road at the Buddha Bypass.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report, deputies were alerted to the accident at 8:31 p.m.

Police say 19-year-old Isaac McVay of Bedford was traveling west on Tunnelton Road near Buddha Bypass and had started down a hill and around a curve when he lost control of his 2000 Chevrolet Tracker. The vehicle went sideways in the roadway. Police say McVay over-corrected in an attempt to straighten the vehicle along the roadway.

The Tracker collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 47-year-old Reno Bates of Bedford, who was traveling southeast on Tunnelton Road.

Witnesses says McVay was traveling at a high-rate of speed at the time of the accident.

The right rear side of the Tracker collided with the left rear side of Bates' Trailblazer.

McVay's Tracker went off the south side of Tunnelton Road. Bate's Trailblazer rolled on the passenger side of the vehicle.

McVay suffered scrapes to the back side of his upper arm and shoulder pain during the incident.

Bates complained of neck and left side pain. One of his passengers, 40-year-old Heather Bates, complained of neck and shoulder pain following the incident.

Three children were in the Bates' vehicle. Two did not complain of any pain or injuries. The child sitting behind the driver's seat suffered a bloody nose and complained of neck pain following the incident.

Both drivers were tested at the scene for alcohol. McVay tested negative. Bates tested positive but was under the legal limit at 0.052 percent.

Police also noted on their report that the road was wet from a recent rain shower.

Assisting at the scene were AMR ambulance service, Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department first responders and Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.
