Storms Leave 56,000 Without Power In Indiana

Last updated on Friday, June 1, 2018

(UNDATED) - Severe storms raking central and southern Indiana have left more than 56,000 electricity customers without service.

Duke Energy reported more than 50,000 customers without service Thursday evening, including more than 15,000 in Monroe County.

Vectren reported nearly 4,600 customers without service, and Indianapolis Power & Light Co reported nearly 2,000 outages.

The storm blew down trees and limbs blocking some roads, including a portion of Interstate 65 in southern Indiana.

The National Weather Service says a trained spotter measured a 61 mph wind gust northeast of Indianapolis.

Unfortunately REMC is advising us it could be this morning or sometime today before all REMC customers have their power restored.

Duke Energy is not giving any time table at this time as to when ALL customers will have their power restored.
