(STATEHOUSE) - State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) participated in the 64th annual U.S. Army War College National Security Seminar recently held in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
"I'm honored to be one of 160 business, government, academic and community leaders selected to attend the seminar," May said. "It has been an amazing experience to work and collaborate with the talented and dedicated people who protect our freedom."
NSS is a four-day program where invited guests examine current national security issues and exchange candid dialogue. The seminar is designed to help participants gain a better understanding of the perspectives and concerns of the defense community.
"Among the seminars and networking events, a highlight of the week was a visit to the battlefields at Gettysburg," May said. "There, we learned the importance of having the proper strategy for the battle at hand, as we learned that the best tactics cannot trump the wrong strategy. It was truly awe-inspiring to stand on those hallowed grounds where great men gave their lives standing up for their beliefs."
May was nominated for the seminar by LTC Andrew J. "Coby" Short, a student at Army War College. Both May and Short graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School.
"Sharing this opportunity with Coby has been tremendously special," May said. "I believe Coby will be a U.S. Army colonel in the future. It goes without saying that he has made huge sacrifices to serve and protect, but what is often overlooked is the tremendous sacrifice made by his family, starting with his wife and children. My appreciation for Coby and other service members is truly ineffable. They inspire me with their love of country."
State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) represents House District 65, which includes all of Brown County, most of Lawrence County and parts of Monroe, Jackson and Johnson counties.
