Papa Johns Employee In Mitchell Tests Positive For Hepatitis A

Last updated on Thursday, June 21, 2018

(MITCHELL) - The Lawrence County Health Department has issued a warning after a Papa John’s Employee who delivered packaged foods tested positive for Hepatitis A. The employee delivered packaged foods from Papa John’s located at 3860 State Road 37 in Mitchell.

Officials say the employee worked while ill on June 12 and 15. However, that person did not directly work with or prepare food in the facility.

While the risk of transmission is low, customers who were delivered food items by this employee are being notified and offered free hepatitis A testing and/or the vaccine paid for by Papa John's.

The restaurant is working with the county health department to prevent any new cases.

Anyone who ate food from the pizza restaurant on June 12 and 15 and is concerned about the virus should receive the vaccine by June 26.

Hepatitis A vaccines are $53. The health department will be giving the vaccine from 9 to 11:30 a.m. today, Monday, June 25 and Tuesday, June 26 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Those who were delivered food items from Papa John's on June 12 or June 15 should monitor their health for Hep A symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, fever, stomach pain, dark-colored urine and yellowing of the skin and eyes.

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
