(BEDFORD) - Sheriff Mike Branham, a member of the Lawrence County 911 Board, told the Commissioners on Tuesday morning that the nearest ambulance will now be dispatched on emergency medical runs.
He says he is wanting to clear up some misconceptions that are spreading through rumor and social media.
In the past, an advanced life support ambulance with a paramedic on board was sent on emergency runs where an individual was in need of lifesaving measures.
Now, the nearest ambulance will be dispatched.
"The closest ambulance will be sent no matter what," Sheriff Branham says. "That way they can get to the patient sooner and the patient enroute to a local hospital as soon as possible. We believe this is the best for the public. If needed an advanced life support ambulance will roll to the location or meet them enroute if needed.
In the past, it may have taken longer for an advanced life support ambulance to reach someone in need of lifesaving measures because that ambulance may be miles away.
Now an ambulance crew can get to an injured or person in need of medical attention quickly and begin basic life support measures.
"If need be an advanced life support ambulance is needed a second ambulance will roll, but the first crew can get basic life support measures started until advanced help can arrive," Sheriff Branham says.
