Police arrested 37-year-old Aljoseph Cockrel on three counts of felony rape, criminal confinement, domestic battery with a deadly weapon, strangulation and domestic battery. He is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on a $200,000 surety or 20,005 cash bond.

According to a Lawrence County Superior Court I probable cause affidavit, Bedford Police officers were called to the home after a woman reported she had been raped.

The woman told police Cockrel had raped her on Thursday, strangled her and stabbed her in the shoulder with knife.

She also accused him of threatening to kill her during the rape.

Later that same day, she told police Cockrel had hit her in the head five times and forced her to perform other sex acts.

Police say the woman suffered a stab wound to her left shoulder, had bruises on her neck, left wrist and had swollen areas on her head.
