Last updated on Sunday, June 3, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A man claiming to be a member of the Aryan Nations was arrested after he made racial slurs and punched another man in downtown Bloomington on Thursday night.

Bloomington Police arrested 53-year-old Paul Farrow Jr. on misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct. He is being held at the Monroe County Jail on a $1,500 bond

Police were called to the scene of the assault at a taco truck parked at Fourth and Walnut streets at 6:38 p.m.

A 58-year-old man told police a man walked up to the truck and him in the chest as he waited in line at the food truck. The man then spouted off some racial slurs and told him " to go back to where you belong."

The victim was able to provide police with a detailed description of his attacker and the incident was caught on near by video surveillance.

Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams says officers found Farrow, who is a transient, at a bar in the 200 block of West Kirkwood Avenue. Police say Farrow told them he was a member of the Aryan Nations, an anti-Semitic, white supremacist religious organization group. He then began yelling racial slurs.

Capt. Kellams says this is being considered a hate crime and the report will be included in the department's annual FBI Uniform Crime Reporting program.
