Mamma's Restaurant Customers Recommended To Get Hepatitis A Vaccination By June 22

Last updated on Sunday, June 17, 2018

(BEDFORD) - According to the Lawrence County Health Department, anyone who consumed food or drink at Mamma’s Mexican-Italian Restaurant on June 8th or 9th is recommended to receive a Hepatitis A vaccination by June 22.

"While it is relatively rare for restaurant patrons to become infected with Hepatitis A... it is recommended to receive vaccination by June 22, 2018, as further protection from becoming ill," stated the press release.

Vaccinations will be administered all this week from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Anyone who ate at Mamma's on those dates is advised to monitor their health for symptoms of hepatitis A for 50 days. Symptoms include loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, fever, stomach pain, brown-colored urine and light-colored stools. Yellowing of the eyes and skin may also appear.

People should also be sure to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and warm water especially after going to the bathroom and before preparing food. If symptoms develop, stay at home and contact your healthcare provider.

Mamma's is the third Bedford restaurant to have an employee test positive for Hepatitis A. Just last week, it was a fast food worker at Burger King. Back in April, an employee at Marco's pizza. So far this year, the state department of health says there have been 21 confirmed cases of hep-A in Lawrence County and more than 100 statewide.
