Heltonville Man Arrested After Altercation Involving Knife, Baseball Bat

Last updated on Monday, June 18, 2018

(HELTONVILLE) - A Heltonville man was arrested after an altercation between family members Sunday night.

Lawrence County deputies were called to a home in 240 block of Meadowbrook Drive at 10:53 p.m. after a 911 call reporting an altercation with a knife and baseball bat between 56-year-old Garold Kinser and a 77-year-old male.

When police arrived Kinser had left the home and the male victim was being treated by emergency crews. The victim had suffered cuts to the top of his head and forehead.

"At some point during the altercation the male victim was able to obtain an aluminum baseball bat from inside the residence and strike Kinser with it in an effort to fend off the attack," says Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults. "Mr. Kinser suffered an injury to his head as a result of being hit with the bat, but was able to leave the residence in a vehicle."

Police later located Kinser at IU Health Bedford after hospital staff reported he was there being treated for his injury.

Kinser was treated and released and arrested early this morning on a charge of battery with a deadly weapon and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
