Last updated on Wednesday, June 6, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police Department officers were able to coax a woman to safety after she was sitting on the railing on the Third Street bridge over State Road 37 on Monday.

Four officers responded to the scene in the 3000 block of West Third Street at 6:18 p.m. after a 911 caller reporting a woman sitting on the edge of the railing of the bridge.

Officers were able to persuade the woman to move away from the railing.

The woman told police she was distraught about a relationship breakup, but said she didn't intend to jump from the bridge.

Police say the woman could not maintain her balance and had slurred speech and a white substance around her nostrils.

She was transported to Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital and held for a psychiatric evaluation.
