Last updated on Wednesday, June 20, 2018

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford City Council will consider lowering the speed limit on Mitchell Road at their July 10th meeting.

The Bedford Board of Works approved the request of Bedford Police Department Chief Terry Moore to lower the speed to 35 mph to make the roadway safer for motorists.

Currently, the speed limit is 55 mph at the White River bridge, then lowers to 50 mph as you approach downtown.

Chief Moore says he asked for the request after he received a letter from the county's Solid Waste Management District. on Mitchell Road. He says there is a steady flow of traffic into the facility with around 170 residents visiting the facility daily.

The request will go before Bedford City Council at its July 10th meeting.
