All Hands On Deck When Storms Race Through Lawrence County

Last updated on Tuesday, June 12, 2018

(BEDFORD) - It is all hands on deck at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department when storms race through Lawrence County.

Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer told the commissioners on Tuesday morning that when she arrived at the Sheriff's Department last Thursday, as soon as she walked in the power went off.

"There sat the Sheriff (Mike Branham) and four other dispatchers all busy answering calls," she added. "Four were answering 911 lines, one was on a cell phone with utility companies and I was on the line with David (David Holmes County Highway Superintendent) passing on information about downed trees."

Luchauer says in a 20 minute time frame they answered between 25 to 30 - 911 calls.

Holmes thanked the community and the Volunteer Fire Department firefighters who responded to help remove trees from roadways.

"It is a team effort, when we are hit that hard," Holmes added.
