Coleman was instrumental in starting the humane society. She passed away December 12, 2006, at her residence. Coleman was employed at General Motors for forty years and involved with the White River Humane Society. In return for her dedication, the White River Humane Society named an award in her honor. The Coleman Award is given annually in her honor.

Polley has served as a volunteer for more than 30 years. Each year she sells around 100 tickets to the Bone Appetit and makes hundreds of phone calls each year. She helps with fundraisers and the membership drive. She has attended every dinner for the last 20 years. She is also the proud adoptive parent of three shelter cats and two shelter dogs.

This year's event raised an estimated $22,000 for the homeless animals of Lawrence County.

The next fundraising event for the shelter will be a yard sale this summer. The shelter will be looking for donations to sell. The date and details will be announced at a later date.
