Two People Injured In Accident On State Road 54 East

(SPRINGVILLE) - Two people were injured in an accident on State Road 54 East, near Kenwood Addition Road on Saturday morning.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report, 76-year-old Jeffery Haas of Springville was stopped at the stop sign at Kenwood Addition Road and pulled out onto State Road 54 East.

Hasas told police as he was pulling onto State Road 54 East he saw two motorcycles approaching at westbound at a high-rate of speed and one of those motorcycles, collided into the right rear of his 2016 Subaru Legacy. The impact caused the car to spin 270 degrees throwing the rider from the bike.

Police say 31-year-old Nathaniel Lewis, of Linton, landed in the roadway. Lewis, who suffered internal injuries was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment. Air Evac would not fly due to bad weather.

Haas complained of body pain and was treated at the scene. He refused to go to the hospital.

Witnesses told police they too witnessed those on the motorcycles traveling at a high-rate of speed before the collision.
