Last updated on Monday, May 14, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Two pole barns were destroyed in a fire on Sunday afternoon in the 5300 block of East State Road 45.

More than 30 firefighters from Northern Monroe Fire Territory, Bloomington Fire Department, Benton Township and Perry Clear Creek firefighters responded just after 2 p.m. and were one the scene for several hours.

Firefighters had to attack the blaze from a distance because of several explosions that went off inside the garages. Power lines were also sparking causing a danger to firefighters.

Firefighters had to cut holes into the metal buildings to reach the blaze after the roof collapsed and walls began to buckle.

Crews later cut holes in the metal to reach fires that were hidden by debris after the roof collapsed and walls buckled.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
