Pekin Man Killed in Accident near South Boston

(SOUTH BOSTON) - A fatal accident claimed the life of a 50-year-old Pekin man and sent a teenager to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

According to Indiana State Police, at approximately 2:35 pm Tuesday, 50-year-old Jeffery Turner, of Pekin was traveling west on State Road 10 near Canton/South Boston Road when for an unknown reason his Lincoln Town Car went off the north side of the road.

Turner over-corrected causing the car to cross back over State Road 160 on the south side of the road and crash into a utility pole on the passenger side.

Turner, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Andrew Vires, also of Pekin, suffered serious injuries and was flown from the scene by helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Assisting at the scene were Salem Fire Department, Washington County EMS, Washington County Sheriff's Department, Pekin Town Marshall and the Washington County Coroner.
