Last updated on Thursday, May 24, 2018

(BEDFORD) - Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis swore in a new officer at the Board of Works meeting.

The Times Mail reports that Toby Gerkin was an Oolitic Police officer before taking the oath to become a Bedford officer.

Two officers resigned from the department - Anthony Wray and Ross Johns.

Chief Terry Moore says Officer Wray is joining the National Guard full-time and moving to Arizona. Officer Johns decided law enforcement was not the career path he wants to take.

Bedford Fire Department Chief Jon Wagner requested to move firefighters from their probationary to permanent status for Battalion Chief Kenneth Tumey; Capt. Bruce Deckard, Lt. Jeffrey Armstrong, Senior Firefighter Zachary Zoller and Firefighter Second Class Bryan Osborne.

Firefighters will participate in fire apparatus driving prerequisite and training class. This training is recommended by the state. The training will include five hours of driving for new hires and for them to pass a writing test.

The Fire Department is also establishing an active shooter workplace emergency response policy.
