TASC Director And BPD Chief Changing Roles

Last updated on Saturday, May 5, 2018

(BEDFORD) - Friday, May 18th, 2018 will mark transitions in leadership at the City of Bedford as Melanie Hacker, the TASC Director, and Dennis Parsley, the Police Chief, plan for changes in their roles.

Melanie will retire after serving the citizens of Bedford for nearly 30 years and insuring that they are safely transported throughout the city via the TASC program that is funded through state and federal funds.

Under Melanie's leadership the TASC program has achieved a high level of excellence. Melanie, in collaboration with the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) and her staff, continues to maintain excellent buses, have rehabilitated the TASC garage, implemented a monthly pass system, as well as an online route program that has resulted in increased ridership each year. "Melanie's committed service to the citizens of Bedford is amazing. She has a heart for the people she serves each day that has always exceeded my expectations. She will be greatly missed by all of us." said Mayor Girgis.

Chief Parsley has been a member of the Bedford Police Department for nearly 40 years and during the last 10 he has served as the Chief of Police. Dennis will step away from the Police Department and take on the role of TASC Director beginning May 18th.

"40 years," says Chief Parsley. " I remember the first day like it was yesterday - March 4th."

Mayor Girgis shared that "Dennis has been a valued member of Bedford's leadership team in his role as Chief and I
am very grateful that he will lead TASC in Melanie's absence."

Chief Parsley's many accomplishments at the Bedford Police Department include the addition of the Spillman System that provides real time information to police officers via in-vehicle computers, increased training, and access to equipment that insures the safety of citizens and officers.

It is anticipated that a new Chief of Police will be appointed by May 18th.
