Lawrence County Officials To Fill Office Vacancies

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Council approved to allow several department head to hire new staff.

According to the meeting minutes, Superior Court I Judge John Plummer II and Superior Court I Judge William Sleva both need to fill two vacancies in their courts.

Sheriff Mike Branham was given permission to fill a dispatcher and jail officer position.

They also gave Commissioner Rodney Fish permission to use $2,200 from the county's Rainy Day Fund for engineering costs to refurbish the old JayC building on Mitchell Road. The building will be the new home fo the Department of Child Services.

Fish also requested to transfer $5,666 from the Riverboat Fund to replace flooring in two offices at the courthouse.

The council also approved a decision by the commissioners to hire two school resource officers who will assist the school corporation's safety specialist to develop a school safety plan. The cost to the county will be just under $41,000.
