INDOT To Repave State Road 46 East Between Nashville And Columbus

Last updated on Thursday, May 24, 2018

(UNDATED) - Indiana Department of Transportation will repave State Road 46 East between Nashville and Columbus.

Work will begin this summer and into early fall.

Fifteen miles will be milled and resurfaced between the Nashville CVS Pharmacy and the Tipton Lakes Boulevard area in Columbus.

On May 14th traffic was shifted to a single lane in each direction at Tipton Lakes Boulevard and barricades were put in place. Work in that area is scheduled to last for about 24 days, according to Harry Maginity, spokesman for INDOT.

Patching will be done where needed on the full length of the project, as well as asphalt paving and road, street and driveway approaches. Flaggers will be stationed at these work sites. Full-depth concrete repairs also could begin in mid-May.

Once milling and resurfacing begin, drivers will experience delays. Flaggers will direct drivers around that moving worksite.

Normal traffic flow is to resume by Sept. 15.

The Nashville Town Council is working with INDOT to make improvements on State Road 46 East. Some suggestions awaiting INDOT approval are a traffic light at State Park gate, adding bike lane from the park to the Nashville and a sidewalk along State Road 46 between The Seasons and CVS.

Bridge projects in the works

Work continues on the bridge on State Road 46 East near the State Road 135 South intersection. The bridge should be completed by next week.

Once that project is complete, crews will begin to replace a large box culvert on State Road 46 West at Bond Cemetery/Shipley Hollow roads. A temporary traffic light will be set up there.
