Fish Fry Fundraiser To Raise Funds For Joe Jackson Hotel

Last updated on Thursday, May 10, 2018

(VALLONIA) - A fish fry fundraiser to help with costs of renovating the Joe Jackson Hotel in Vallonia will be May 12 at Whistle Stop, across from the post office in Vallonia.

Serving is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinners, including a drink and two sides, are $7. Sandwiches are available for $4.50. Desserts of homemade pie are $2.

Sally Waldkoetter, chairwoman of the committee working on the project, said the next task is heating and air conditioning. She said the committee is taking bids to get that work done.

"That's the biggest thing," Waldkoetter said. "We're trying to get the money together to do that."

Also this year, plans are to complete installation of electrical service, and there is a need for people interested in serving on the committee. Waldkoetter said no special qualifications are needed.

"Just an interest in restoration of the hotel," she said.

The hotel was constructed in 1914 and is listed on both state and national lists of historic structures. It belongs to the Fort Vallonia Days Association.

For information about the project or to volunteer, contact Waldkoetter at 812-358-5081.
