Estranged Wife Of Morgan County Deputy Facing Attempted Murder Charge After Breaking Into Home

(MARTINSVILLE) - Early Monday morning, the estranged wife of Morgan County Sheriff Robert Downey​ was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

Police responded to a home on Sichting Road, east of Martinsville, just after 1 a.m. Monday following a disturbance.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil says 51-year-old Jacquelyn Downey of Indianapolis broke into the home through a window while in possession of a gun.

The homeowner confronted her, and a struggle ensued. The homeowner was able to overpower Downey and hold her until police arrived.

Downey faces felony charges of attempted murder, intimidation, criminal recklessness, domestic battery, and a misdemeanor charge of harassment.
