According to an Indiana State Police report, 72-year-old James Kluesner of Dubois was traveling north on County Road 400 West in a dump truck when he drove across the railroad tracks near the entrance of Farbest.

Kluesner was forced to stop the dump truck on the tracks when the railroad crossing arms lowered for an approaching train.

Kluesner got out of the truck and attempted to raise the railroad stop arm in front of and behind the dump truck to drive off the tracks without damaging the arms.

He was unable to do so and realizing the train was approaching from the east, he attempted to get back in the truck to drive it off the tracks.

He was on the step-side of the driver's side of the truck when the train struck the dump truck on the passenger side.

Kluesner was thrown from the truck onto the ground nearby. The train pushed the truck into the stop arm assembly, causing it to break. A piece of the stop arm assembly then fell onto Kluesner.

Kluesner was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance and flown by a StarFlight helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit Saturday.

Assisting at the scene were Huntingburg Police Department, Dubois County Sheriff's Department, Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services also assisted at the scene.
