Couple Fined $633 For Illegally Dumping Trash In Dubois County

Last updated on Wednesday, May 23, 2018

(DUBOIS CO.) - The Dubois County Commissioners fined Sean Lemond and Jill Clark $633.47 for dumping 23 bags of trash on three county roads.

The Dubois Free Press reports, the commissioners determined a $100 fine for each incident was appropriate. They added $333.47 to cover the cost of the resources used in the investigation and subsequent clean up. That amount included the time spent by the staff of the Solid Waste Management District cleaning up the dump sites as well as mileage, administrative fees and the $23 disposal fee that it would have cost the pair to dispose of the bags at one of the county's dump sites.

During trash court held Monday, Sean Lemond, who appeared after the proceeding, told commissioners he had paid someone else to dispose of the trash but admitted it was his responsibility to ensure it was done correctly.

According to the Solid Waste Management District director Carla Striegel-Hall, she always recommends folks buy trash stickers and tag the bags themselves rather than paying someone to do it to ensure it is disposed of properly.
