Bloomington's Unified Development Ordinance Consultants Release Draft Diagnosis

(BLOOMINGTON) - The city of Bloomington Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Consultants from Clarion Associates and McBride Dale Clarion released a draft diagnosis on their findings of the current city of Bloomington UDO.

The UDO is the main source of land use relations for the city of Bloomington and includes both zoning and subdivision controls. It can also include other desired city regulations, such as design guidelines, sign regulations, and floodplain and storm water managementt.

The draft diagnosis details the consultant's findings on both the effective and the outdated content of the city's current UDO, recommendations on revisions and structural changes moving forward.

The goals of the updated UDO include:

  • Implement the Comprehensive Plan
  • Make development review straightforward, predictable, and efficient
  • Improve design and form standards for Downtown Bloomington
  • Re-evaluate how to incentivize preferred development
  • Reorganize and improve the user-friendliness of the UDO
