Bloomington Symphony Orchestra Invites Scores For 2018-19 Season

Last updated on Monday, May 7, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - For the past 48 years, the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra has been a musical home for local residents who want to keep their love of music alive. For its upcoming season, the BSO is celebrating those who create music in the community by announcing a call for scores for its 2018-19 season. Three scores will be selected from local composers for performance.

The orchestra wants to recognize composers of all levels of experience and musical styles. For young and first-time composers, the orchestra invites submissions for pieces written for any combination of eight orchestral instruments in the call's Chamber Division. Local 7th-graders through 12th-graders, in addition to IU undergraduates enrolled in Jacobs School of Music courses (including those offered through the Music in General Studies program), may submit orchestral scores in the call's School Division. IU Graduate students enrolled in Jacobs School of Music courses, as well as community members, can submit orchestral scores to the Community Division. Composers can submit to more than one division but will only be eligible to win one. Works must be original and unpublished but may have been performed before.

BSO's Artistic Director Alejandro Gómez Guillén, members of the BSO Board of Directors, as well as other music-makers in the Bloomington community will announce the winning scores by July 13th, 2018.

Interested participants can apply for the call using through the BSO's online form by June 15, 2018. Visit the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra website, www.bloomingtonsymphony.com, for more information.
