Last updated on Sunday, May 13, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after he allegedly pushed a woman during a domestic fight and threatened to shoot himself with a flare gun on Thursday afternoon.

Bloomington Police arrested 35-year-old Richard Moore. He was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation and then to the Monroe County Correctional Center on charges of intimidation, domestic battery, interfering with reporting a crime and resisting law enforcement.

His bond was set at $10,500, but is on hold because Moore was on probation at the time of this crime and violated the terms of his probation.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, officers were called to the home in the 1500 block of South Dorchester Drive at 12:30 p.m. after a woman called reporting she had been pushed down by Moore he had knocked a cell phone out of her hand when she attempted to call police. Moore then threatened to harm himself with a flare gun.

The female was able to escape the home, but left the couple's 3-year-old daughter behind.

When officers arrived they attempted to speak to Moore, but he refused to open the door more than a crack and then slammed it on officers. After slamming the door he barricaded it with a steel bar.

Kellams says police had to break a kitchen window in order to enter the home.

When officers got inside, Moore had grabbed his daughter and refused to release her.

Kellams says Moore did not threatened to harm his daughter, but officers were concerned for her safety.

They were able to talk Moore into releasing the child and surrendering to police.
