Bloomington Man Arrested After Police Find Him Intoxicated And Armed

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after he attempted to purchase an alcoholic-beverage at Kroger and police found him with weapons.

Bloomington Police were called at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, to the Kroger in the 500 block of South College Avenue after an employee at the store reported an intoxicated man attempted to purchase an alcoholic beverage.

Police say the employee refused to sell the all ready intoxicated man the beverage and the man left the store.

Police say 43-year-old Jeffrey Smith climbed into his pickup truck and attempted to drive way. Police stopped him in the parking lot and found Smith had an AR-15 rifle and semiautomatic handgun. Police say had no permit for either weapon.

Smith was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm without a permit and public intoxication. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $5,500 bond.
