Bloomington Arts Provider To Receive Funding From The NEA

(UNDATED) - The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today that 12 Indiana arts organizations and cultural programming providers will receive a total of $1,098,300 in grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The NEA will be awarding more than $80.5 million nationwide during this second round of grants supporting 1,070 projects.

"This round of grants marks one of the largest NEA investments in our state in nearly 10 years," said Lewis C. Ricci, IAC Executive Director. "These grants provide jobs to artists, arts administrators, and other creative workers with arts experiences for millions of Americans."

Grants to Indiana include:

American Folklore Society, Inc., Bloomington, Indiana / $30,000

This Art Works - Folk & Traditional Arts grant will support American Folklore Society's Consultancy and Professional Development Program.

Indiana Arts Commission, Indianapolis, Indiana / $766,300

This Partnership grant reflects the annual federal appropriation to the IAC to support state and regional services.

Artmix, Inc., Indianapolis, IN / $25,000

This Art Works - Visual Arts grant will support Urban Artisans, a vocational program for youth with disabilities.

Arts Council of Indianapolis, Indianapolis, IN / $50,000

This Art Works - Arts Education grant will help support IndyArts Education, a collective impact initiative connecting schools with arts organizations to ensure equitable access to arts education for students in Indianapolis.

Indiana State Museum Foundation, Inc. (Indiana State Museum & Historic Sites) Indianapolis, IN / $25,000

This Art Works - Museum grant will support the exhibition "Felrath Hines: Dark to Light".

Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN / $30,000

This Art Works - Visual Arts grant will support a community-based public art project with artist and designer Matthew Mazzotta in the Ryves neighborhood of Terre Haute.

Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis, IN / $50,000

This Our Town - Design grant will support Art for Change, a series of community planning activities to inform a new percent-for-art program.

Indianapolis Art Center, Indianapolis, IN / $25,000

This Art Works - Visual Arts grant will support ArtReach, a community-based after-school and summer visual arts program.

Muncie Civic and College Symphony Assoc., Inc. (Muncie Symphony Orchestra) Muncie, IN / $10,000

This Art Works - Music grant will support Muncie Symphony Orchestra's community engagement and education project.

New Harmony Project, Inc. (The Project), Indianapolis, IN / $15,000

This Art Works - Theater grant will support residencies for playwrights to develop new work with dramaturgical and production support.

Rural Arts Alliance (RAA), Batesville, IN / $50,000

This Our Town - Design grant will support land use planning, design, and public art installations for a new pedestrian-oriented plaza in downtown Batesville, Indiana.

South Short Arts, Inc., Munster, IN / $22,000

This Art Works - Local Arts Agencies grant will support a two-part series of exhibitions featuring works by regional artists exploring decaying urban infrastructure, and related activities.

"The variety and quality of these projects speaks to the wealth of creativity and diversity in our country," said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. "From Atlanta, Georgia to Sparks, Nevada, NEA funding reaches thousands of communities, assisting local organizations and providing access to the arts to all."

Awarding grants and supporting partnerships constitutes a significant portion of the NEA's budget. In 2017, the agency made awards totaling $128 million or 85 percent of its annual budget appropriation. The first round of grants for fiscal year 2018 were announced in February 2018 and totaled $25 million. Other awards will be made in coming months.
