According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, officers were called to the 1400 block of Vinegar Hill Road after a report a woman had been held for 24 hours by 28-year-old Adam Brewer.

When officers arrived at the home, they found a woman with bruises on her forearm and legs.

"During their investigation, officers learned that Mr. Brewer had arrived at the home between 6 and 7 p.m. the night before," Chief Deputy Shoults says. "At that time a verbal argument took place between the victim and Mr. Brewer outside of the residence."

During that time, Brewer allegedly sexually assaulted the female.

"Eventually the victim went with Mr. Brewer to his home in the 4120 block of Tunnelton Road," Chief Deputy Shoults says.

Once there Brewer allegedly smacked the woman with an open hand multiple times, hit her with a broom and took her cell phone and broke it so she could not dial 911.

The female was able to escape after a family member intervened and called police.

Officers later located Brewer at the home on Tunnelton Road where he was arrested on charges of domestic battery, criminal confinement, and sexual battery.
